Agree 100% about backwards innovation. Where/what do we tap for an adequately flexible financial base that can absorb re-engineering? Maybe Medicaid?

Ben, great comments as always. I am finishing up spring break with the family today and it has been a good recharge. One thing I'm trying to understand here is the connection between the Chiefs and Blackhawks loyalty??

Hah. Was a huge Joe Montana fan growing up and became a Chiefs fan when the 49ers unceremoniously dumped him in favor of Steve Young (of course the right move at that time). Lived through the Marty Schottenheimer regular season champs, playoff chumps era, the Dick Vermeil no-punt playoff game, the Herm Edwards, Todd Haley, Romeo Crennel dark years (Tyler Palko and Brody Croyle, anyone?). Obviously, things have been much better of late, this year's SB notwithstanding.

Became an NHL fan during the 1994 Stanley Cup Playoffs (the NYR Cup Run, Mark Messier's famous "guarantee," Gary Thorne's iconic calls). We were living in Georgia at the time where hockey wasn't exactly a popular sport (Flames were long gone and Thrashers hadn't come and gone yet). So, I randomly picked the Blackhawks as my favorite team (not completely random, they were the best team on EA Sports' NHL '94). Ed Belfour, Jeremy Roenick, Chris Chelios, and others. Went through some lean years there too (the dismantling of the team, the ABC line (Arnason, Bell, Calder -- no Kane, Toews, Hossa for sure), the Alpo Suhonen experiment, Pat Foley's departure). Spoiled by the Joel Quenneville years and mutiple Cup Runs. Last few years have been brutal, but Bedard is undeniably talented and the late season play of Nazar, Rinzel, and Knight and the deep talent pool in college and juniors are reason for hope.
